How fit is your horse, really?

"I think we rode about an hour" isn't a fitness plan. If you can't see how much your horse is actually working — and at what intensity — you can't tell if you're building or burning them out.

GPS that knows the difference between walk and canter

Live GPS tracking

Tap Track Ride and go. The app maps your route in real time, even on trail rides far from cell service.

Walk / trot / canter zones

See exactly how much of each ride was walk, trot, or canter. Build conditioning intentionally instead of guessing.

Fitness over time

Watch total saddle time, average MPH, and ride intensity climb as you condition. Hard data on whether your plan is working.

Live tracking that just works

Open the app, tap Track Ride, and your phone does the rest. Distance, time, gait zones, route map — all captured automatically.

End the ride and you get a complete summary: miles, duration, average MPH, max MPH, and a breakdown of walk/trot/canter time.

Frequently asked questions

Does GPS tracking work without cell service?

Yes. Your phone's GPS works in airplane mode and far from cell towers. Proper Strides records your route locally and syncs it when you're back in range. Trail riders in remote areas can track full rides without connectivity.

How does Proper Strides know when I'm walking, trotting, or cantering?

Speed zones are calculated from your GPS data. The app uses your average speed within rolling time windows to classify each section of the ride as walk, trot, or canter. You can review the breakdown after every ride.

Will GPS tracking drain my phone battery?

GPS tracking uses battery, but Proper Strides is optimized for modest usage — typically about 10 to 15 percent per hour on modern phones. We recommend starting long rides with at least 50 percent battery.

Can I share rides with my trainer?

Yes. Invite your trainer to your barn and they can see every ride, including routes, gait breakdowns, duration, and your notes. You can also share individual rides directly.

Can I tag rides by discipline?

Yes. Tag any ride as trail, dressage, jumping, barrel racing, groundwork, lunging, cross country, lesson, hack, flatwork, or hand walking. Review and filter by discipline over weeks and months.
